EFTC 13th Conference in Oxford

The 13th European Federation of Therapeutic Communities (EFTC) conference was held from 20-23 September with more than 150 delegates representing most of the federation’s member organizations. This successful conference provided a unique opportunity to hear from various experts who discussed best practice and the evidence-based outcomes of the therapeutic community addiction treatment model. Cristina Lopes and Michele Bellasich, respectively representatives from Dianova in Portugal and Dianova in Sweden attended the event.

The lack of strong leadership is one of the biggest challenges facing nonprofits today – a which is going to get worse as the sector expands and baby boom executives retire. Nonprofit organizations – foundations, associations, NGOs, institutions, public and semi public agencies, joint ventures and even corporate foundations – depend on two resources to accomplish their missions. One of them is money. The other one, perhaps even more scarce, is leadership.

Latin American Conference of Therapeutic Communities

The XIII Latin American Conference of Therapeutic Communities (TCs) will be held in Medellin (Columbia), October 20-22, while hosting the 25th anniversary of the Latin American Federation of Therapeutic Communities (FLACT). Dianova representatives will attend the event and participate in the numerous scheduled debates to build “the therapeutic community we dream about”.

Global Education Forum

On October 6, the Global Education Forum took place in Madrid; this international meeting gathered many education professionals to debate on the future of education. The purpose of the meeting was to propose to all social agents a “great conversation” about the necessity and urgency of creating a new educational model capable of providing responses to the deep transformations of our time.

Supervised Injection Site Insite to Stay Open

On September 29, 2011, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled unanimously to uphold supervised injection site Insite’s legal exemption allowing some injecting drug users (IDUs) in the Downtown Eastside neighborhood of Vancouver to continue to inject their own drugs safely, with sterile equipment, without fearing police intervention.

Social Workers Visit Dianova
