On October 6, the Global Education Forum took place in Madrid; this international meeting gathered many education professionals to debate on the future of education. The purpose of the meeting was to propose to all social agents a “great conversation” about the necessity and urgency of creating a new educational model capable of providing responses to the deep transformations of our time.

Supervised Injection Site Insite to Stay Open

On September 29, 2011, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled unanimously to uphold supervised injection site Insite’s legal exemption allowing some injecting drug users (IDUs) in the Downtown Eastside neighborhood of Vancouver to continue to inject their own drugs safely, with sterile equipment, without fearing police intervention.

Social Workers Visit Dianova

Prostitution – Exchanges Cuba/Sweden

As part of a best practice exchange visit in Cuba, organized by Pr. Sven Britton from Swedish, Karolinska Institute and psychologist Ms Kristina Hillgren, a representative of Dianova in Sweden, Ms Cipriana de Arteaga was invited to Cuba to present the characteristics of the Swedish experience in the field of prostitution.

Study: “From Dependence to Re-integration”

Portugal – Following the recent three-year renewal of Quinta das Lapas Therapeutic Community’s certification to the ISO 9001:2008 “Quality Management System”, Dianova announced the publication of the preliminary report of a longitudinal study scheduled until 2014: “From Dependence to Re-integration – a study of substance abusers’ social trajectories after program completion.”

Access City Award 2012

In Portugal, Dianova was designated national coordinator of the Access City Award 2012 campaign launched by the European Commission – Direction for Justice, to promote accessibility in the urban environment for people with disabilities. The new edition of the Access City Award is open for applications until September 20th, 2011 and the winner will be announced at the Award Ceremony in Brussels on 1-2 December 2011.
