    According to Henry Ford, one of the twentieth century’s greatest entrepreneurs, capitalism cannot thrive and prosper without respecting ethics. For Mr. Ford, it was morally and ethically wrong that a chief executive be paid more than forty times the average wage of his employees (1). In other words, Henry Ford belonged to that breed of entrepreneurs (now, an endangered species) for whom capitalism is certainly the mode of social organization most successful and most respectful of everyone’s liberties, provided that those holding the reins of the economic power be capable of showing restraint and self-control.

    Since 2007 the International Coalition for Responsible Tourism (CITR) has been organizing an annual event which highlights a specific topic to discuss along responsible tourism.

    The event's first edition was held in 2007 under the theme : "No sex tourism, crime without borders" The event was relayed in different countries, including Cameroon, Burkina Faso , Togo, Senegal and Niger .

    Europe’s drugs problem is becoming increasingly complex with new challenges emerging that raise concerns for public health. This is according to the European Drug Report 2014: Trends and developments released May 27th by the EU drugs agency (EMCDDA) in Lisbon. 

    In its annual review of the drugs problem, the agency again describes an overall stable situation, with some positive signs in relation to the more established drugs.

    But this is counter-balanced by new threats posed by synthetic drugs, including stimulants, new psychoactive substances and medicinal products, all of which are becoming more prominent in a changing European drug market.

    The 4th World Forum Against Drugs ended on May 20. This two-day event was organized together with ECAD's (European Cities against Drugs) annual conference in Stockholm. The event gathered around 400 people from all parts of the world – although most of whom came from Europe and the US – and from various professional backgrounds (NGOs, government representatives, academics, etc.) working in the field of addiction prevention and treatment.

    From 9 to 11 May 2014, the European Youth Event (EYE 2014) brought together 6,000 Europeans aged 16-30 to exchange views on youth-related issues at the European Parliament's seat in Strasbourg (France). Dianova Portugal was involved in the event's management as a National Coordinator of the EYE 2014.

    In 2013, the Organization of American States appointed various international experts to review the current situation and outline future solutions to the drug problem in the Americas. The Analytical Report and the Scenarios for the Drug Problem in the Americas 2013-2025 are the two main components of this work. Both reports, which were extensively discussed during the RIOD Seminar in Uruguay, exhibit a great openness to a dialogue on current policies and a willingness to explore nontraditional approaches to the subject.

    From 5 to 8 May, representatives from Dianova Spain along with over 60 delegates from a number of Spanish-American social organizations attended the 16th Ibero-American Seminar on Drugs and Cooperation held in Montevideo (Uruguay), the objective of which was to discuss future drug policies in the Americas, with a special focus on the strategy chosen by Uruguay.
