    Mercedes Acevedo lives in a rural community in Nicaragua. At the age of 20, she is exceptional. In a country where     a mere 7 per cent of rural women complete secondary education, Mercedes is now attending secondary school and is eager to pursue further university studies. Mercedes was offered the possibility of entering secondary school through Dianova Nicaragua. And this has changed her life.

    On March 12th, she came to New York to share her life experience during a side event – ¨Education, Gender and Maternal Health: Social and Public Goods¨ – organized by Dianova and other partner organizations in the margins of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. She was able to give her speech in the English language.

    The Commission on the Status of Women to Begin Today


    The fifty-eight session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW58) is to begin today, March 10 through March 21 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York city. The priority theme for 2014 is challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for women and girls. This year’s session will also examine the access and participation of women and girls  to education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work.

    Global Drug Use Situation: Overall Trends


    The United Nations Office on Drug and Crime’s annual World Drug Report presents a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in drugs markets. It covers production, trafficking, consumption and the related health consequences. The 2013 report points out that drug use situation and dependence have remained relatively stable, with a slight increase to a large extent due to the growth of the world population.

    Dianova lauches a new campaign to raise awareness of the consequences of drug and alcohol abuse, both for those who abuse substances, their families and entourage. The Dianova "REACT" campaign will be featured in print and electronic media with a series of posters and videos.

    Dianova Italy is one of the partners of a campaign launched by the Ministry of Health to raise awareness on AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STI). The campaign was launched on a dedicated website under the motto: “United against AIDS”.

    A nationwide, multimedia awareness campaign was launched in Portugal to raise public awareness of the addiction-related problems. Through a message of hope, Dianova’s REACT campaign aims to make the public aware of the consequences of drug and alcohol abuse in various contexts: at school, at work or in the family circle. 

  9. Esther del Rio-Las Marias educational center (Nicaragua)

    Nicaragua : New Science Lab Opens in Dianova’s School


    The Esther Del Rio-Las Marías educational center operated by Dianova Nicaragua has a brand new science lab which official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on February 18. This opening was made possible with the support of the Government of Japan and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). This new lab will allow for the reinforcement of Dianova Las Marias’ secondary and technical learning, in direct benefit of an estimated 300 students enrolling in school every year.

  10. International Seminar on Education - Cuba/Chile

    Chile: “Developing Networks for an Educational Renewal”


    An international seminar on education between Cuba and Chile was co-organized by Dianova Chile, the Yuntas company and a network of educational services EduGlobal

    From 6 to 10 February, a seminar on education has been held in Santiago de Chile under the theme: “Developing Networks for an Educational Renewal”. The seminar was aimed at promoting more efficient educational and learning models to reach out to increasingly interconnected and globalized students.
