Opening of the World Forum Against Drugs

The World Forum Against Drugs (WFAD) opens today May 19 its 4th meeting in Stockholm, Sweden. Since 2009, this is a biennial encounter for people who are working on the field of drug abuse prevention at grass-root, on a voluntary basis, professionally or as policy makers.

Note: The views expressed by the WFAD do not necessarily represent the views of Dianova International.

NGOs, self-help groups, treatment centres, scholars, local, regional and national authorities, politicians and other policy-makers, business communities come together to share their drug abuse prevention expertise and to inspire new methods of prevention. The main goal is to work for a drug-free world that will promote peace, human development, democracy, tolerance, equality, freedom and justice.

WFAD: All people have the right to be protected from the harms created by drug use; and drug users have the right to the expectation of living drug-free and having the opportunity to lead productive, working lives.

This year forums will focus on the following topics:

  •   Cannabis:Issues related to legalization of drugs and potential consequences
  •   How drug treatment and the criminal justice system are working together. How drug courts work in in different areas and the potential to spread this method to the rest of the world
  •   Issues concerning gender-related differences and similarities

The European Cities Against Drugs Mayor´s conference will be held at the same time, and will be combined with the WFAD. Hence, this will be a major event. WFAD is arranged under the high patronage of H.M Queen Silvia of Sweden, who is committed to this cause.

This will be the third time that Dianova participates at WFAD. For this year´s forum Michele Bellasich, Martin Windmark y Susanne Unedius will attend from Dianova Sweden and Elena Goti and Lucía Goberna from Dianova International.
