Nicaragua : New Science Lab Opens in Dianova’s School

The Esther Del Rio-Las Marías educational center operated by Dianova Nicaragua has a brand new science lab which official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on February 18. This opening was made possible with the support of the Government of Japan and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). This new lab will allow for the reinforcement of Dianova Las Marias’ secondary and technical learning, in direct benefit of an estimated 300 students enrolling in school every year.

Dianova school’s new science lab has the equipment and materials necessary for the teaching of biology and physics/chemistry – for an estimated $ 20,000 value. The lab will enable students to practice the experiments necessary to a full understanding of these school subjects.

The new science labThe official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in the presence of Rafael Guerrero, director general of Dianova Nicaragua, Jacinto Morales, Las Marias’ school principal, Sandra de Berti, representative of the SDC, not to mention the attendance of a great number of invited guests.

During the event, Rafael Guerrero thanked the donors who have made this lab possible and stressed that “The science lab inaugurated today is a genuine example of the efforts that have been carried out to improve quality education and to reduce the divide between urban and rural education, between schools who have the wherewithal and those who don’t.”

Sandra de Berti, representative of the SDC mentioned that: “One of our top priorities is the adequate training of young people, with the tools that will enable them to build a decent future – with this priority in mind we have decided to support the Dianova Foundation.”
