On June 26, will be celebrated the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a United Nations day dedicated to promote the organization’s various objectives through awareness and action. In addition to this important day for the work or the Dianova network, a series of events not to be missed will take place in Geneva.

Geneva Drug Policy WeekThe Geneva Drug Policy Week aims to bring together local and international actors working in the field of drug policies such as permanent missions and United Nations agencies, academia and civil society representatives to discuss drug policies from a perspective grounded in Human Rights, health and dignity for all. The Geneva Drug Policy Week will take place from June 24 to 28 and will consist of a series of lectures, debates, round tables, film screenings, visits and cultural events open to the public.

On June 26, coinciding with the international day mentioned above, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will organize a series of events in Vienna, Geneva and New York to launch the 2019 World Drug Report. Dianova will attend the event organized in the Helvetian city to learn about the latest data, trends and debates about drugs and drug use worldwide.

In addition, the World Health Organization will organize the Second Forum on Alcohol, Drugs and Addictive Behaviours from June 27 to 29 to improve public health actions in these areas by strengthening partnerships and collaboration among public health-oriented organizations, networks and institutions. Dianova has been invited to participate as an expert on drug policy.

In parallel to these events directly related to drug policies, Dianova representatives will for the first time attend the 44th session of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations, an event to be held from June 24 to July 12.

We look forward to attending and participating in these events, and we’ll be reporting through the social media and on our web site.
