According to the United Nations program on AIDS (UNAIDS), improved access to antiretroviral treatment has reduced the number of AIDS related deaths in Latin America, while the transmission of HIV aggravates due to scarce prevention programs.

RIOD Prevention Campaign

The RIOD (Ibero-American network of NGOs working in the field of addiction – of which Dianova in Spain is a member) launched a campaign to reduce the risks of drug abuse among Latin American Migrants. More than 5.7 million foreigners live in Spain, among whom more than 3.3 million are not stemming from EU member states – including about one and a half million from Latin American countries.

The Global War on Drugs Has Failed

New York, Thursday, June 2 – The Global Commission on Drug Policy declared the global “war on drugs” a failure and called for a new approach to reducing drug abuse to replace the existing strategy of strictly criminalizing drugs. “The global war on drugs has failed, with devastating consequences for individuals and societies around the world” said the report issued by the commission Thursday.
