Preparations Begin for the CSW62

The first open preparatory meeting for CSW62 was held in October in New York City. On this occasion, the CSW Steering Committee gave a brief introduction to the main theme for next year’s Commission: “Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality for rural women and girls”.

The CSW is in line with the UN overall effort to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’s Goal number 5: “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”, this is the reason why CSW wanted to highlight the situation of women living in farming and rural communities whose economic development is often hindered by a number of factors, including climate change.

Other issues raised included the need to ensure synergy between civil society and UN Women to enhance partnerships with nongovernmental organisations, and the importance of finding additional local and regional support to organise activities stressing gender inequalities and placing greater emphasis on the CSW’s work.

Seven planning subcommittees have been created:

  • Orientation for New Participants
  • Creation of an “Awesome Woman Award”
  • Organisation of a craft fair
  • Printed booklet and app with the activities programme
  • Demonstrations
  • Reception
  • Consultation Day

Dianova International has joined the orientation and consultation subcommittees to help in the preparations for the CWS62. The first group will prepare documents and reports to guide those who are attending this event for the first time. The Consultation Day subcommittee will organise an event that will include presentations, working groups and networking opportunities and will take place on March 11, one day before CSW62 officially begins.
