Sixty-eighth regular session of CICAD

The 68º regular session of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) will take place on 9-11 December 2020 in Bogotá, Colombia. The session, presided by Colombia (currently holding the Vice-Presidency of CICAD) will follow a mixed onsite/remote format. Member States can nominate up to 2 delegates to the meeting in person. All special guests, delegates, representatives of international and civil society organisations are welcome to join virtually. The formal invitation and access information will be shared on the website of CICAD in due course.

CND reconvened 63rd session

The meeting will take place on 3rd December and 4th December 2020 at the Vienna International Centre (Board Room C). The event will be an opportunity for Member States to vote on the World Health Organization Expert Committee on Drug Dependence recommendations on the scheduling of cannabis and related substances – Decision point re: cannabis

VNGOC Informal Meeting

The board of the Vienna NGO Committee on Drugs is inviting all members and interested NGOs to participate in an online, informal membership meeting on Monday, 30 November. In order to accommodate as many time zones as possible the meeting will be held twice: 30 November, 10 am to 11.30 am Central European Time (CET) and 30 November, 5 pm to 6.30 pm Central European Time (CET)

The meeting will serve to discuss current issues and exchange updates and information. No formal decisions will be made by the committee, the draft agenda can be viewed on the organization’s website.

XII Day on Addictions

Friday 20 and 27 November from 9:00 to 11:00 am, online via Zoom – The University of Barcelona and the association Projecte Home Catalunya organize the XII Day on Addictions with two round tables that will address various topics including new addictions, ICT abuse, dual pathologies, problematic uses in adolescence and the issue of gender in social reintegration. UNAD Online Congress

The Network for Addiction Care (UNAD – Spain) is organising an online congress on 13, 16, 20 and 23 October under the title: UNAD: Networking, more important than ever at the time of COVID. After addressing the impact of the crisis on the most vulnerable and providing a panorama on addictions, Tuesday 20th will be dedicated to drug policies, with various speakers, including Alexis Goosdeel, Director EMCDDA and Lucía Goberna Lehmann, Head of Institutional Relations, Dianova International. The last day will be devoted to the role of the third sector.

11th EUSPR Conference and Members’ Meeting

25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women

On October 1st, the UN assembly will convene a high level meeting with the overall theme of “Accelerating the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”. This meeting will be held 25 years after the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which to this day remains the most comprehensive and transformative global agenda for the achievement of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Special event to mark the United Nations’ 75th anniversary – A one-day high-level meeting will be held on 21 September, at the opening of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development

Venue:  Online – The establishment of the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) was mandated in 2012 by the outcome document of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), “The Future We Want”. The meeting of the high-level political forum on sustainable development in 2020 will be held from Tuesday, 7 July, to Thursday, 16 July 2020, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. This will include the three-day ministerial meeting of the forum from Tuesday, 14 July, to Thursday, 16 July 2020.

The theme of the forum will be “Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development “.

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and expected limitations on in-person meetings and international travel, the ECOSOC Bureau has made adjustments to the format and programme of HLPF 2020. All meetings will be held virtually, including all side and special events.

European Drugs Summer School 2020

ISCTE – Lisbon University Institute (Lisbon, Portugal) – Organized by the European Monitoring Centre on Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), this two-week  summer school prepares professionals and students to meet the complex policy challenges that face Europe in the field of drugs. 3rd JSWG Meeting on the Impact of COVID-19 in the Americas

Online meeting, 10:30 am – the “Third Meeting of High Authorities of the Joint Summit Working Group (JSWG) on the Impact of COVID-19 in the Americas”  has been postponed. It will now take place on on Friday, June 12, 2020. The meeting will provide an outlook of the effects of the global health crisis on livelihoods, food and agriculture, intra-regional trade, and production chains in the Americas.

2020 Development Cooperation Forum

Generation Equality Forum 2020

The Generation Equality Forum is a civil society–centred, multi-stakeholder, global gathering for gender equality, convened by UN Women and co-hosted by the governments of Mexico and France. It will be connected in real time across the world through interactive satellite sessions enabled through technology to maximize participation. The Forum will kick-off in Mexico City, Mexico, on 7-8 May 2020 and culminate in Paris, France, on 7-10 July 2020.

64th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women

Venue: United Nations Headquarters in New York – 2020 is a pivotal year for the accelerated realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, everywhere. The main focus of CSW64 will be on the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly.

The Media, a Key Actor in the Field of Drugs

Evidence-Based Treatment as an Integral Part of the Health System

A side event to the UN 63rd Commission on Narcotic Drugs – Vienna International Centre, Conference Room BR-A – The UNODC-WHO International Standards for the treatment of drug use disorders encourage all Member States to consider expanding the coverage and improving the quality of drug treatment systems, interventions and policies based on scientific evidence as an integral part of the health system. Women & Drugs at the CND 2020

Barriers in access to treatment and recovery: issues faced by women living with substance use disorders – United Nations – VIC Conference Room MOE100, 9:10 – 10:00 a.m. – Women living with and affected by addiction are a particularly vulnerable group; they are more likely to be subjected to violence and very few treatment facilities can address their specific needs.
