gymnasium in nicaragua

En classe. Ecole Las Marias - Dianova NicaraguaIn a gesture of international good will, the Town Council of the Spanish town of Espartinas in the province of Seville has announced that it will provide the funding needed by Dianova Nicaragua for the construction of a gymnasium on the grounds of Dianova’s Las Marias educational center outside of Managua, an ambitious project that is designed to benefit the children of the entire Carazo region of Nicaragua where the Dianova center is located.

This generous contribution to the work of Dianova Nicaragua was the outcome of a visit to Dianova’s facilities there by Espartinas officials, during which they were able to observe the organization’s scholastic programs and to better understand its need to develop various sports and recreational programs to complement its successful academic efforts.

These programs are well-known to promote positive youth development and will also have the benefit of paving the way for Dianova students to participate in regional and national student sports competitions.

Commenting on this important gift, Ms. Ester del Rio, Director of Dianova Nicaragua, stated,

“The new facility will not only benefit the students of Las Marias but also all other young people of the Carazo region. No comparable sport facility is now available in the region due to the lack of financial and human resources by both the Nicaraguan Ministry of Education or the Institute of Sports.”

This cooperation with the town of Espartinas will be carried out in four stages which will eventually finance the overall costs of the project.

We hope that this generous and altruistic initiative will serve as a model for other Spanish and European municipal institutions, as well as those of other countries worldwide, to form partnerships with non-governmental organizations which will benefit the disadvantaged peoples of developing countries.
