february 2010: opening of "second chance school" in dianova's "la quintanilla" center (spain)

The project was made possible thanks to the efforts of the regional Board of Education, the Murcia regional Board for Social and Immigration Policies and the Yecla Institute of Secondary Education.

The adolescents will both take advantage of la Quintanilla’s adolescent personal-development programs and catch-up on their educations at the same time

La quintanillaDianova's therapeutic, educational center for youth with psychosocial disorders recently opened a "second chance school" within the center's premises, under the guidance of the regional board of education's “catch-up” program.

This project was made possible thanks to the efforts of the Murcia Board of Education, the Murcia regional Board for Social and Immigration Policies and the Yecla Institute of Secondary Education.

The project offered is designed for adolescents, who will both take advantage of la Quintanilla’s adolescent personal-development programs and catch-up on their educations at the same time

Special educational activities, up until now, were taught by the center's  special educational personnel. From now on, however, the adolescents will be able both to take advantage of their stay to get back in touch with a normal school curriculum and  to complement the "life skills" taught by Dianova's programs (personal and social development, respect, values, responsibility, and other desirable personal characteristics.)

A part time professor will teach at "Second Chance School" to youth aged 14 to 16, while older adolescents will attend school on a voluntary basis. Qualifications obtained at the end of academic year will be officially recognized.

The curriculum has been closely combined with the methodology of the therapeutic community, resulting in a setting based on "work projects". This methodology comprises an individual support and follow-up performed in close relationship with La Quintanilla's therapeutic and education personnel.

“This is a very important achievement, because we will now be able to respond to school-age adolescents' needs and rights and to encourage their motivation in a normal educational environment, thanks both to Dianova’s personal development experience and programs and to joint activities with the local board of education, says Salva Palao, supervisor of La Quintanilla center.>

"On behalf of Dianova, we would also like to emphasize that this innovative project was made possible as a result of the efforts and dedication of the regional Board of Education, the Murcia regional Board for Social and Immigration Policies and the Yecla Institute of Secondary Education.”
